We are thrilled to offer a special edition of ten race weathered Porsche 917Ks, as raced to victory by Pedro Rodríguez and Jackie Oliver at the 24 Hours of Daytona on the 30th and 31st of January 1971. This unique edition of only ten models has been meticulously hand-painted and detailed by our master model makers to show every detail of the race dirt and damage as the car drove to victory. Each of the ten models will be accompanied by an archive quality Giclée print of the car mid-race, selected by the curator at Motorsport Images.
The Porsche 917 is one of the most iconic race cars in motorsport history. Its creation followed a shift in FIA rules for prototype engines, with a new 3.0-litre engine limit introduced for 1968. Porsche, already developing the 908, quickly unveiled the 917, a Group 4 car with a 4.5-litre Flat-12 engine. Early tests were challenging, but after refinements, including wider rear wheels, the 917K version emerged as a dominant force.
The 917K made its debut at the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours, where Porsche finished 1-2 and set a distance record. The 917K’s success continued with seven major wins in 1970 and another overall victory at Le Mans in 1971. Its dominance extended into the Can-Am series, where it was so successful the competition waned.
The 917K's legacy is cemented in motorsport history and film, famously featured in Le Mans with Steve McQueen. This 1:8 scale model replicates the #2 car driven by Pedro Rodríguez and Jackie Oliver at Daytona in 1971, where they triumphed in a thrilling battle after a gearbox failure. The model is crafted with Porsche's input, using digital scanning and meticulous attention to detail for ultimate accuracy.
The Porsche 917K Daytona 1970 Race Weathered Edition is limited to just 10 pieces.
